Sad news from Spain
Jackson Bird Design founding partner Jim Bird died on Christmas Day 2010 at his home in La Mancha Spain. Jim founded the business with Ian Jackson in 1965.
After working with Ian in the design business for some years Jim eventually decided that he wanted to pursue an independent career as an artist and lived the rest of his life in New York, La Mancha in Spain and in Ses Alqueries, Santa Maria in Majorca. Ian and Jim kept up a continuous collaboration on art and design projects over the subsequent decades.
Jim achieved great success as an abstract expressionist painter and achieved over 150 major solo exhibitions in the USA, Europe and the UK, he also collaborated with other artists to achieve more than 100 collective exhibitions around the world.
A memorial event to celebrate Jim’s life was held on the 8th of January in Ses Alqueries, Santa Maria in Majorca and was attended by many of Jim’s friends including those from the art, design, architectural and business world. Jim was given a good send off, with lots of wine, numerous eulogies and poetry readings. His ashes were scattered amongst the olive and orange groves of this region of Majorca, so loved by Jim.
